Magnolia Bud (damaged) and Small Stick with Gall: In daily life we are surrounded by nature’s litter on the ground. This detritus is so ubiquitous, so common, so close that we often don’t see it, as if it is invisible. I pick up a stick or a stone, I turn it around and around. What does it look like? What else does it look like? I take it into the studio to photograph. Some become animated characters and appear to have stories to tell.
Photography can transform the unimportant into the distinctive. It is not a matter of making the insignificant appear significant. The different perspective makes me aware of how narrow is my field of view (physical and mental).
