The Exploratorium has been celebrating for decades the mathematical Pi, 3.14…..infinity, annually on March 14th. Einstein’s birthday is also on March 14th. Our multigenerational family has enjoyed many visits to the museum over the years. I took our nine-year-old boy, Tejus, to the Exploratorium on Pi Day who thoroughly enjoyed that special day of Pi that included a slice of real pie. I wanted to commemorate that day with a painting of the young 9 year old contemplating the meaning of Pi and its significance in math, science, and even everyday life. The idea of placing a halo around the boy’s head with the Pi numbers came in a flash of inspiration after the museum visit. We did actually wear shirts with the Pi symbol so that was also included in the painting.
