Artist's Statement
Great design delights the senses, which I especially admire in utilitarian objects. Inspired by their functional yet beautiful designs, combined with a nod to the forbidden, and informed by Louis Sullivan’s “form follows function,” I’ve gathered a grouping of such objects that have been outlawed, banned, or shunned: the perfect but lowly incandescent light bulb, a candy-striped plastic straw, an aerosol spray can, a Cuban cigar box, a vintage opium pipe, and a well-used tube of cadmium red. The objects are accompanied by one of my favorite outlaws – James Dean.
