Artist's Statement
Sometimes a painting is prescient in retrospect. “Garden of After” was completed in the fall of 2019. The lush, tropical environment I initially imagined gave way to a hot and hissing place, where something has occurred to alter the landscape. The remnants of what was before are altered. The tree, so attached to the ground by vines, wonders whether to stay or leave, but where would it go? The fruits shrivel or sigh. Even in an altered state, there is beauty.
