Artist's Statement
In the Summer of 2019, my beloved girlfriend was undergoing chemotherapy. As she began scheduled treatment, I realized that I needed to find a way to express the emotions I was feeling. This realization brought forth how her life would become a delicate balance of countless tests, consultations, chemo infusions, and loving support, all in the hope that remission of the cancer would change the course of her life.
The half-full red liquid in the Rx bottle represents the chemotherapy drug Doxorubicin as a part of her medical therapy in fighting cancer. The shell is a symbol of the feminine with a crystal glass marble peering into the future. All supported by a single-legged stand. She lost her battle with cancer in March 2020.
This painting is dedicated to all who have gone through chemotherapy with the hope of achieving total remission. It is truly A Delicate Balance.
