Artist's Statement
I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream - to raft and hike the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. During this challenging endeavor, I witnessed the incomprehensible age and metamorphosis of the Canyon, its formations and unconformities. Being in a place impacted by almost 2 billion years of geologic history left a profound influence on me. Painting my Grand Canyon Series of abstract watercolors resulted. "Light on the Past" reflects my memories and emotional response to the geology, atmosphere, and intense light in the Canyon. The painting recalls its expansiveness, forms, patterns, and rugged beauty. I want the viewer to feel the impact of the environment and the unimaginable passage of time in this intriguing landscape.
