Artist's Statement
The Gathering
“The Gathering” has to do with the forces of nature that build in the earth preceding an earthquake, an avalanche, a geyser or a rockslide. My painting refers to these processes of building, gathering and releasing, not only of their destructive nature, but also those opposite forces of uniting or gathering together to create new products of evolution. It portends the precariousness of the ground we humans live on and symbolizes the vulnerable relationship we have with Nature.
