Artist's Statement
Within the rubric of Morphologies that explores boldly colored hard-edge patterns derived from geometric elementals, Bibel includes a long series of horizontal and oblique skyline cityscapes as scaled up from photography. This leading work of the new series takes the perspective to the vertical, using satellite images. By this approach, the arrangement of geometrically reduced building footprints, streets, and lanes reveal the abstract quality of reality. Rockridge is an Oakland, California, neighborhood frequented by the artist. The central thoroughfare represents College Avenue near the California College of the Arts.
