Artist's Statement
My paintings echo my decades long practice of walking through cities observing the architectural landscape and transforming them into a visual language leading with a poetic aesthetic while entrenched within a social framework via my photography. My mixed media paintings are founded in the practice of photography but in dialogue with the media and traditions of paint. Their framework is informed by the shifts in the public and private realms witnessed during my travels. “Inevitable Entails No. 8” was inspired by the landscape of the outskirts of Saigon, Vietnam. I am trying to capture the changes in the landscape and the systems of communication embedded in the landscape speaking to the human need for connection. Elements of disruption exhibited through my photo transfers as well as painterly markings lend themselves to this narrative of survival. At its root, my work explores the how prosperity impacts the experience of the individual.
