Artist's Statement
I began painting abandoned bunkers in 2016. Built to maintain boundaries of territory during war these ruins call into question contemporary ideas. Walls built for defense crumble. A fetish for hardware feeds the fantasy that we can resolve complex problems with concrete and steel.
I visited this particular site in 2018. Located in Norway’s Arctic Circle on a small peninsula overlooking the Barents Sea, it is part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall, built to cut off Russian supply lines.
