Artist's Statement
My work is about feeling, rather than ideology or narrative. It explores subliminal emotions created by the environments that surround us, and reflects the rhythm of the seasons and the beauty of the commonplace. Borrowing techniques from printmaking, I use an x-acto knife to score into a wax surface, creating line work that evokes a sense of fleeting and fragile beauty. Tumble reflects my attraction to the ephemeral, to the contrast between complexity and evanescence. Inspired by my love for brambles, branches, tumbleweeds and knife patterns on aged cutting boards, Tumble allows me to lose myself in the therapeutic creation of spontaneous, and unselfconscious lines, whose repetitive nature feels like our time during Covid-19 shelter-in-place.
