Artist's Statement
During my journey to the Arctic Circle I found myself near the Steilneset Memorial on the edge of the Barents Sea. The sublime memorial commemorates those who were executed during the witchcraft trials in Finnmark from 1600-1692.
My painting is inspired by the power of the memorial buildings; the unjust persecution of innocent victims; and the misuse of the term “witch-hunt” in the popular press in regards to the current administration.
