Artist's Statement
“’56 Chevy”
Inspired by personal memory, rhythms of jazz and forces of nature, ” ’56 Chevy” abstractly explores a sensation of movement and charged-energy where lines, colors and shapes orbit, collide and merge in a visual adventure. Suggesting the beauty of a classic relic and to evoke a feeling of enjoyment and freedom while ‘sailing’ out on the open highway.
Reference to my stacks of sketchbooks filled with drawings of immediate surroundings, current events and dream fragments are useful as a source of inspiration. I work on 3 paintings at a time building layers of color with brushes, oil sticks and rags by adding and subtracting the paint.
My oil paintings are a means of expression and communication, an ongoing investigation often providing welcome unexpected discoveries.
