Artist's Statement
In my triptych "Anthem", I pay tribute to impermanence and uncertainty, as reflected in the various alchemical interactions among air, water and earth. The constantly shifting play among these three states of matter make life possible on this planet, life which is both fragile and transient in the moment yet adaptive and persistent over time, at least so far.
My process is one of applying multiple layers of beeswax and oil pigments to a clay substrate on panel, followed by both aggressive removal of areas and delicate application of final layers until a holistic matrix of color, texture, and balance comes into being.
