Artist's Statement
This series started as an investigation into a pure solid, a seemingly mute form, the cube. Working with a model made of wooden blocks, the cube was subjected to different operations, each one transformational. Blocks opened up, slipped, tilted or leaned, others slanted, parted or were freed. Nine transformations were thus created, each one emanating out of darkness, revealing space and uncovering qualities of interiority.
Taking advantage of the fundamental nature of printmaking -to produce multiple originals- the work is here presented as a series of transformations, some of them appearing more than once. The intention being to give the illusion of infinity within the confines of a finite reality.
