Artist's Statement
I am a collector of objects and memories. These artifacts of my memory exist in an environment where the past and present intersect. These objects and abandoned spaces live on the edge of the sacred and mundane. We attach our story to objects. This work is a landscape where sacred and mundane moments exist in harmony. This series breaks down boundaries between significant moments and moments we pass by every day. Many moments shape us, moments that are major milestones of our lives. This work is a way to remain mindful and present to the in-between moments. A search for the sacred in the mundane.
What Remains of the Dawn-Land is a set of visual metaphors of my childhood in a rural town in Vermont. It evokes the history of Spiritualism in late 19th century New England. A bildungsroman collection of artifacts, objects, and places from my past coming together. This is an intersection of my past and present coming together in a shared space.
