I have worked with images of the California landscape in painting and printmaking for over forty years. My inspiration comes from a love of nature, and from exploring the coast, hills, mountains, open spaces and wilderness all over the state.

In my studio, I work from a combination of my own photographs, sketches and memories to recreate a moment in time and to produce a sense of place. Using realism and attention to detail, I try to capture the unique quality of light of early mornings and late afternoons. In every canvas, I concentrate on making the painted surface interesting up close, while creating an illusion of distance from afar.

Here, I seek to capture the miles of open space ridges looking towards Stafford Lake. This view of Mt. Burdell from Marin County inspired me to reproduce that sense of distance and the appearance of that late-summer light.
