Artist's Statement
My artwork has advanced through experimentation, trial and error, and my most recent series, ‘Process Series’, is built on purifying my progression. It is not about a painting but about how I arrived at the body of work. In this series, I isolate a technique used in all my previous artwork. This technique is the act of making pure sheets of hand-painted acrylic paint that I manipulate and restructure. The goal of the series is to strip down unnecessary noise, distraction, and still create an experience for the viewer. ‘Red Tide’ is part of my ‘Process Series’ and was created for a solo show in which all paintings utilized tone on tone primary colors. Primary colors were chosen to simulate the purification of my work by simplifying the use of color to the three prime pigments. ‘Red Tide’, and other titles for the show, matured to have a slight unbiased political tone, yet, the work is minimal and meant to capture and intrigue the viewer without an extraneous explanation of the conceptual thought behind them.
