Marc and I challenged ourselves with a collaborative artistic adventure: getting of our comfort zones. I am a mixed media collage artist with no wood working experience and Marc is a carpenter who builds wood panels for Bay Area artists and had never made a piece of art. There was uncertainty about the blend of artistry to create this piece. We chose salvaged materials for the structure, painted, then collaged with vintage scraps, such as old school papers of mine. Adding to the education element, we collaged wood at the top with art history book jackets to resemble a library. This served as a reference to the history of art and our learning process. Through this collaboration we stepped into the vulnerability and risk of the unknown. In the end, we landed in a new comfort zone.
