Artist's Statement
In this drawing a family gathers in the final moments of a beloved grandmother’s life. Their grief is palpable, and as young people, it is their first major loss. While their experience is not uniquely Jewish, it fits into the larger theme of my work of depicting Jewish rituals of death and mourning. And, as it portrays an actual family close to mine, I am honored that they granted me the privilege of sharing their grief.
