Artist's Statement
“The Essential Worker” is an intimate response to the challenges of life under Covid. I support my art by working in a grocery store part time, and one of my coworkers is the model for this work. “The Essential Worker” depicts the psychological toll of working with the public during a pandemic, a stress intensified by forced distance and claustrophobia. I see nobility in the perseverance of my coworkers, and I endeavor to give voice to their struggles.
