Artist's Statement
This is an ordinary view, of an extraordinary place. This painting shows our city, bay, and certain iconic landmarks, from a viewpoint that focuses on the structure of the Bay Bridge. The traffic cones and jumble of cables are reminders of the endless work of construction and maintenance, and of the generations of workers who have been here. These elements indicate the human aspect of this otherwise faceless feature. I am as interested in this as I am in the dramatic sweep of the cables high above.
