Artist's Statement
I’ve always been intrigued by rocks. They seem to pull me out of my artistic blocks and back into a place of contentment and artistic flow. In this painting, the rock shows my journey of being pulled downward from the dark cloud and bolt of lightning above, to the peaceful and artistic valley below.
The hole in the rock is symbolic of thinking outside the box. The distant island represents the answer to the above chaos. The water pouring from the hole is the solution that mixes with the chaotic water from above. Both types of water flow downwards to find a resolution. It’s about stepping outside of my normal flow in order to resolve difficult issues. The painting is about creating distance from the problem in order to find the solution.
