A few years ago I was given an antique typewriter. I thought it would be a great idea put a piece of porcelain paper in it. I tried to make a sheet of super thin “paper” in a slab roller. It was difficult. I did what any frustrated writer would have done when there were too many typos – rip the paper out of the typewriter, crumple it and toss it. I had a lot of crumpled porcelain “paper” lying around. I fired it all on a whim , called them Writers Blocks and gave them to writer friends who loved them. I eventually started stacking the pieces. I call them Haiku because, like the poetry, they are small, composed of very few elements, and hopefully resonate with the “reader.” However, like poetry, not any old word or piece of porcelain will do. I agonize over each “poem.”
