Artist's Statement
Overlap is a series of mixed media collages by Aleishall Girard Maxon. This work is a part of an ongoing inquiry between color, shape and space utilizing both found and sourced materials. Each composition grows organically from the first piece of paper, every additional layer creates a new juxtaposition between light and dark, heavy and weightless, seen and hidden. Influenced by textile design, topographical maps and landscape aerial photography, the artist aims to create textured compositions which reflect both the asymmetry and balance we all experience within our daily lives.
