Colorblind-Tattooed Man
As a white mom with two African American boys I have encountered many well intentioned white parents tell me that they are “colorblind” or they don’t “see color” when it relates to race. To me, colorblind, is a form of erasure of one’s identity, beauty and reality. The removal of skin
color forces us to infer who this person is by tapping into our ideas of what people should be. The absence of skin also become a commentary on how clothing, adornment, and outward appearance can define or hide us.
