Artist's Statement
After working in the genre of cityscapes for more than a decade I sought to challenge myself and to challenge the audience by providing a new lens for the time-honored cityscape.
What if we took an inside-out approach to our surroundings? What would we see? A metropolitan viewed from within itself by means of reflections. A city’s self-reflection.
From that idea’s inception, I began scrupulously seeking these mirrored cityscapes in windows from New York, to Paris, down to Los Angeles, and right here in San Francisco. I dreamed of expanding my horizons and changing the landscape of cityscape paintings.
This painting is one of seven in a new body of work titled Dream City. I am excited to debut my new series with this exhibit at the de Young.
