Artist's Statement
What inspired me to do this work was when I was doing a volunteering at a ceramics class at Lighthouse for the Blind it was right next door to a huge construction site “Trinity Plaza” about a year ago which was astounding to look at from another highrise. I found the view very compelling because my eyes kept cycling around the cityscape, first down into the giant core below 8th @ Market which tied into so much, Bart, Muni, shopping malls, water, sewer, electrical lines. The patterned , intricate weavings of so many different people and groups of systems. I was reminded of hell, pulling me down but then my spirit would swing up. The blue crane cement pump was being swung upward out of the picture beyond, jewel-like and soaring as an eternal phoenix. My mind’s eye couldn’t seem to stop swinging around, much like the crane.
