Artist's Statement
"Mid-Century Backyard" is part of a series of pool paintings celebrating design, landscape, architecture and leisure. Desire for simplicity, warmth and beauty looms large today. My hope is to provide a moment of deliverance. The series makes a not so subtle nod to David Hockney. It is an honor to enjoy exhibition of "Mid-Century Backyard" in the very same gallery David Hockney: A Bigger Exhibition took place October 2013 – January 2014. "Mid-Century Backyard" is made up of six 24”x24” wood panels which hint only subliminally at the multiple video screens used in the Hockney exhibit. Painting for me is preparation for future painting. Thank you for the opportunity to put my work in front of your eyes, minds and hearts.
