Artist's Statement
I create paintings out of what I experience in San Francisco, such as emotions of the streets and people, textures of buildings, colors from shadows, abundant shapes, energies of fog, wind, smells, lights, and so forth. These are some of many that inspire me.
After picking a few photos from a few hundreds I take, I begin to paint two to three studies in order to find a good starting point to approach the subject with a bigger canvas usually around 60 by 60 inches. If I am lucky enough to produce a small painting successfully then my inspiration grows stronger. With it, I face a bigger canvas to wrestle with for a few months to even a year or two.
