Artist's Statement
Born from a simple sketch of gestural abstraction, over many months of work The Offering grew into a sprawling landscape of teeth, tongues and scales.
The figures which anchor the composition suggest allegory, but the space they inhabit deliberately evades any particular anthropological reference point. What this ritual is for, what is being offered, what rules bind this pseudo-mythological space - these concerns are inevitably subsumed by the primary aesthetic goals of the artist: to create something beautiful and arrestingly bizarre; to reward close inspection with countless detailed nuances; to balance and unbalance in equal measure.
