Artist’s statement: Karl L Jensen



The drawings, “Nancy” and “Prudence,” are part of a larger personal series of life drawings with an equal emphasis on the pathos of observation from life, but also with an equal emphasis on the abstract qualities derived from this experience.

To clarify (hopefully); both works are treated, in a sense, in the manner of “portraits” but equally, in a sense, in the manner of pure abstract design.

Another feature of this series is that it is both an homage to a most extraordinary artist and teacher, Fred Holle, and a most extraordinary artist and friend, Tom Mogensen, whose unfailing commitment to life drawing sessions at his San Francisco studio, has made the gratifying experience of working on these drawings possible.
