Artist's Statement
The obsession of repetition lies at the root of what I do. Created with cut paper, the images are simple in the execution, yet visually complex. Working in a circular and repetitive manner, the creation of the piece becomes a visual mantra for me, the process having as much importance as the finished work. Each piece is a meditation in and of itself. Simple, yet labor intensive, the images are created using digitally printed hand cut paper. The individual paper strips are glued by hand onto the panels to create images of concentric circles, and patterns are created with hand painted dots. After the image is complete, the piece is coated by hand with acrylic medium to provide durability and protect the paper from the elements. The simplicity of the image belies the complexity and laborious nature of the process involved in creating each piece.
