Artist's Statement
Both title and inspiration for this piece are derived from the same source, Psilocybe cyanescens is a species of potent psychedelic mushroom. The effects of this particular mushroom will often create a fractal visual pattern for the user, this piece is intended to be a 3D representation of that experience. Created by implementing a stream of consciousness approach to sculpture, there is no preconceived form or drawings to work from, each piece added informs the next. Cyanescens is a modern interpretation on formal sculpture rooted in meditatation.
