Artist's Statement
I live alone in a 480 square foot San Francisco apartment. I do not have a garden nor a car. My first purchase after the Stay in Place mandate was a year’s subscription to Zoom. My world expanded to reunions with friends in both coasts of the US, Mexico, Brazil, and England. I created art on Zoom, took fashion styling on Zoom, attended my book club, my monthly sewing bee, etc. all on Zoom. I was and remain alone, but not lonely.
Zoom allowed me to enter people’s homes. I became fascinated to see how I could capture the essence of a class mate in a zoom meeting by the use of collage, a medium that I first used extensively in a CCSF Life Drawing class in 2019. My palette became pages of my fashion and travel magazines.
Zoom Meeting is a tribute to the many old and new friends who have been muted and unmuted, spotlighted, and caught off guard.
