Artist's Statement
Every time Black people protest, asking to be treated equally to white Americans, they are told their means of protesting is wrong. They are told they are disrespecting the flag or the military or being unpatriotic, or too violent. This rhetoric distracts from their just reasons for protesting. With this artwork, I have highlighted Black people’s exhaustion from decades of fighting white America's practiced ability to distract us all from the issues at hand. Generations of Black people have worked for equality, yet white America’s persistent oppressive language still invades spaces from the newsroom to the classroom.
