Artist's Statement
My initial inspiration for my de Young Open piece “The Order” was a direct response to the San Francisco shelter in place order that began in March of 2020. While working on this piece, I was also thinking about ideas around suburbia, home vs. house, and the idea that the home is the last vestige of privacy, but also a place of secrecy.
