Artist's Statement
I draw my face every day.
It is always available for me.
My face is never quite the same.
It is hard to resemble myself from one day to the next.
This drawing of my face is my diary, my confession and an attempt to center myself while seeking clarity. Every facet of the skin, its wrinkles and sags, the gaze and the gesture all turn into shapes and lines to resemble my face. But the flat image appeared on the paper is not my face. With its own presence, it’s no longer my face but intimately connected with me. It is an extension of me like my child.
I am wearing a pink hoodie. I feel cozy and safe in my pink hoodie and am shielded against the greyness of the reality. Within its embrace, I look eagerly, even in vain, to see beyond what I already know.
