Artist's Statement
There is an ancient phrase in Chinese: taught by nature. I find continual inspiration and surprise in nature for my creations. As an art teacher in San Francisco for almost 30 years I have spent innumerable hours walking in Golden Gate Park and especially in the Botanical Garden. Seeing the seasonal flowers always touches me and none more so than the magnolias, the most graceful and elegant of all in my eye. Through the simple means of color and ink, I strive to capture the serene beauty that nature offers us, to evoke a sense of calm and harmony with the natural world. I hope that viewers of my paintings may feel suffused with feelings of peace, love, and tranquility.
