Artist's Statement
This work, Natura Morta, is part of a series, Mud and Stone. Speaking generally, the works in this series have areas of smooth surface and areas of textured surface; areas of buffed sheen and areas of very matte flatness. I like my paintings to have some interest as you walk by them. Giorgio Morandi is the visual source for much of my painting. My Natura Morta is more severe, less romantic than his works, but it shares the vertical, architectural sense of presence and stability. These objects are calm, standing firm, longing to be seen. In these very turbulent times, these objects speak of quiet and isolation.
