Artist's Statement
“Peel Me a Grape” is one painting in a group of my works that explores the qualities of light passing through translucent objects. As a subject for painting, grapes offer a variety of conditions on which light can play its magic. In addition to translucency, grapes are often partially covered with ‘bloom’, a waxy white film that reduces reflective as well as penetrating light. To contrast the grape’s properties, I have introduced the gold ribbon which is highly reflective but offers no light penetration.
