Artist's Statement
I painted “5 Copters” as part of a long project examining oppression and evil, heroes, victims and innocent bystanders. I left the work in black white and grey as I felt in this case color would distract from the painting. The painting has in it some influence of Picasso specifically his painting “Guernica”. I included the unrelated ghost-like characters as a way to express my inability to comprehend the events I considered as I created this work. I make these paintings as I have both eternal hope that we will move past this brutality as a species and also complete uncertainty of the possibility of change.
