Artist's Statement
Whenever I would ride Muni, I was always fascinated by the many different types of shoes on their way to many different places to interact with others. The shoes were not connected to any gender, race, political choice, or who was wearing them.
When we were called upon to shelter in place, I had plenty of time to look through photographs I had taken of the shoes on Muni. Sadness struck me. The shoes that would have many stories to tell about social interaction would not have the opportunity to be social for a very long time.
The photos prompted me to paint “Social Shoes” to illustrate there is hope that all people, regardless of the types of shoes adorning their feet, will be able to interact with other shoes as we work to get our feet moving locally and globally again. Those shoes have many adventures yet to experience!
