Historical Asian imagery’s overall aesthetic and graphic power, have long been an inspiration for me. The traditional figures I use create a sense of movement that I find compelling over and over again. This collage, “Wrestling with my Dreams,” was created from my large collection of Japanese papers and ephemera. The piece is constructed on wooden panels, with overlays of paper traditionally used in baffling for Japanese screens called the "minoshibari” and "mizubari" layers. Other materials used in the piece are worm-eaten Japanese block prints and Japanese drawings and writings.
