Artist's Statement
Some inspiration for “Spread, Sleep,” is the body and being as multiplicity. Manifold. I was interested in the concept of fading in and out; shifting states of consciousness, memory; wakefulness, sleep, and gesture. A nebulousness of being; as simultaneous happenings, with ambiguousness and integration.
I wanted to experiment with portraying the figure, pattern, cellular structure, hair, and subtle facial expression; and choosing how much or little to describe something, and what effect that has. Coherent portrayal was unimportant. Translucency, layers, instinct, and spawning was. This evolved as bodies congruous, yet disjointed. As a triple portrait or one. The biology of the inside spilling outside.
