Artist's Statement
This painting was started a few months prior to the covid-19 crisis and was supposed to be a story about my despair over the state of the U.S. and the world. The story remained the same but, after the pandemic hit, the imagery continued to shift as I struggled to understand and deal with this new way of living. During the months of April and May, while finishing the painting, a field of orange poppies began blooming in my front yard. The poppies became my message of hope and a reminder to us all that nature always wins.
