Artist's Statement
“Hard to Love” is part of a series of large-scale watercolors exploring women’s rage and the history of feminist theory through the lens of the televised, professional wrestling leagues WWE, Lucha Libre, and G.L.O.W. The painting depicts WWE superstars Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair.
“Hard to Love” is titled after Briallen Hopper’s collection of essays and short stories. Hopper’s writing weaves an eloquent path through complicated relationships, contemporary feminism and pop culture.
