Artist's Statement
This piece was inspired by watching the love my father would give to his community and to his family. The idea gained strength as Incorporated the imagery of the Black Panthers (Breakfast Program) on a backdrop of the foggy bay estuary, ...ports, cranes, ships and all. The subject is serving an important plate of information at breakfast to nurture the growth of the young minds at that table. Hard work, studying, and perseverance through adversity are all a part of his lesson. This piece is really about the relationship a black man has with black boys and the active part he plays in the development of his community.
