Artist's Statement
As a native San Franciscan, I’ve seen the increased number of people living in the streets because of the deep socioeconomic divisions in our city. I was inspired to show the juxtaposition of the brightly and varied colored tents and the hardship experienced by living in the streets. I wanted to draw attention to the tents that have become commonplace while those living in them are so often ignored. These tent communities exist on the edges of the road and in the shadows of buildings as they live on the edge of society.
