Artist's Statement
Curiosity for cultural mythologies became a mission to transport the viewer's personal memory to a new interplay of experiences. My process is one of assembling where intention transcends boundaries... as new as right now, as old as a ceremony performed in the Floating World.
I used to take art overseriously -- guerilla art, lifesize nudes -- until an injury forced me to go digital. The challenge of artists is to breathe life into a work in any medium.
There is a simple, linear road to this Cat Tales Series: I have always been drawn to Japonisme and, well, cats. The result is this mashup, which has enjoyed enthusiastic reception... and is such crazy fun to create.
This depicts a kitten proudly presenting a trophy without realizing the consequences, thinking 'I am a very great hunter’. (After Utagawa Kunisada)
(Text L to R: 'Bird of paradise', 'naughty kitty' 'angry falcon', 'bird in hand')
